What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
Chiropractic adjustment is the art of introducing a specific force in a precise direction applied to a vertebrae that is subluxated or out of place. The doctor identifies the location of the subluxation, determines the exact direction and the best way to correct the positioning. The adjustment itself is a movement of the spine that is done either by hand or with a computerized instrument in a very quick movement.
Do Chiropractic Adjustments Hurt?
Normally, chiropractic adjustments do not hurt. In fact, most of my patients absolutely LOVE getting an adjustment. They actually look forward to the time that they can get adjusted because it feels terrific for them. But, apprehension about an adjustment causing some pain or discomfort sometimes keeps the person who can greatly benefit away.
What is the Popping Sound Heard When a Chiropractic Adjustment is Made?
This is simply an expansion of gases from inside the joint being adjusted. It is not a bone moving across another bone, nor is it the breaking of small osteoarthritic spurs on the bone.
Should I Visit a Chiropractor Only When I Have a Sore Back or Neck?
It is true that you should visit a Chiropractor when you have either back or neck pain. In fact, I was trained to diagnose very specific spinal issues. However, chiropractic is much more than simply dealing with pain. There are more than 13 million people a year who visit Chiropractors as their primary health care provider. What this means is people go to Chiropractors to maintain good health.
Once you go to a Chiropractor, Do You Have to go for the Rest of Your Life?

This particular myth is very common and has always puzzled me and here’s why:

  1. You don’t “HAVE TO” do anything that you don’t want to do.  Millions of people have enjoyed an improved quality of life through chiropractic care and they have done so through their own free will because they see phenomenal results. Some choose to take a wellness approach and PREVENT health challenges from ever becoming an issue through regular maintenance. (Much like a car!)
  2. Many people come to Chiropractors after years of not taking care of their spine and nervous system and EXPECT overnight results because they live in a different paradigm. Pain relief is one thing, but corrective care (establishing a new pattern in your body) takes time. It’s like never changing the oil in your vehicle and expecting your engine to run smoothly forever. IT’S NOT REALISTIC.
Are Chiropractors are as well Educated as Medical Doctors?
Both chiropractic and medical doctors require a minimum of six academic years. Majority of  students entering chiropractic college already have a 4 year undergraduate degree.  Chiropractic education and medical education are similar in many respects and different in others because chiropractors do not prescribe drugs or perform surgery, and medical doctors do not correct vertebral subluxations.
Do Physicians Recommend Chiropractic Care?
Most do, and many physicians are being treated by chiropractors themselves.
Can Babies and Children Benefit From Chiropractic Care?
Yes, people of all ages benefit from chiropractic care. Although limited scientific evidence exists, there are very large amounts of anecdotal evidence to suggest that babies suffering from problems such as colic, breast feeding issues, lack of sleep, asthma all benefit from chiropractic treatment.
